Two hundred dancers open it at once. That is the first thing that happens on Trafalgar Square on the afternoon of 25 October, and it is free to stand and watch.

Diwali on the Square 2026 dates and times

Sunday 25 October 2026, 1pm to 7pm, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, WC2N 5DN. Entry is free. It is a Mayor of London event, delivered with the Diwali in London committee.

What is on at Diwali on the Square

A colourful opening dance sequence with two hundred dancers, then a main stage of music, dance and performance from London's Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities. Around it: craft workshops, yoga sessions, puppet shows and food stalls.

Access

Level access at the entrance and a wheelchair-accessible site. There is a hearing loop for the stage performances, a British Sign Language interpreter, an accessible viewing area with seating, and an accessible toilet with changing facilities.

The opening sequence is the thing to arrive for, and one o'clock on the square is a different proposition from one o'clock anywhere else in London — the space fills from the north steps down, so the National Gallery side gives you a view of the whole stage and the fountains do not. If you are bringing children, the craft workshops and puppet shows sit away from the main stage and run through the afternoon, which means the four-to-six window is the manageable one: the square is at its fullest, but the family programming is not where the crush is.
