Most London rinks are put up in a park. This one is put up in a courtyard that was built in the eighteenth century and has a neoclassical facade on all four sides — which is the whole argument for skating here rather than anywhere else. Skate at Somerset House with Virgin Atlantic Holidays returns to the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court from 11 November 2026 to 10 January 2027.

11 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, two months, in the central courtyard on the Strand. Somerset House describes the rink as one of London's favourite festive traditions and, in its own words, the city's most iconic.
What is there besides the ice
Skating for all ages, warming winter treats, and what the house calls one-of-a-kind gift shopping in the courtyard. The rest of the site keeps its ordinary hours around it: the Strand entrance 8am to 11pm, the New Wing 8am to 11pm and The Courtauld Gallery 10am to 6pm, so a skating session can be the middle of a day here rather than the whole of it.
Tickets and the pre-sale
Somerset House has not published session prices for this year yet. What it has published is the order of the queue: subscribers get priority access to the best slots, and the sign-up for pre-sale tickets is open now. For a two-month run where the mid-December evening sessions are the ones everybody wants, the pre-sale is the part that matters more than the price.
Getting to Somerset House

Two months sounds like plenty of time and is not, because the demand is concentrated in about three weeks. The evening sessions from the start of December to Christmas are the ones that go, and they go in the pre-sale rather than on the day — which makes the newsletter sign-up, not the price, the thing to act on now. If you would rather not compete for them: the second week of November and the first week of January are the same rink in the same courtyard with room to actually skate on it, and January has the added advantage that The Courtauld next door is quiet too.
