English National Ballet brings its Nutcracker back to the London Coliseum on St Martin's Lane from Thursday 17 December 2026 to Sunday 10 January 2027, with more than 100 dancers and musicians on and below the stage.

The story

This production opens on Christmas Eve in Edwardian London, at Drosselmeyer's Sweets & Delights Emporium, and carries on through the battle with the Rat King.

The music

Tchaikovsky's score is played live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic in the pit.

How long, and for whom

The performance runs for about two hours, including an interval. It is recommended for ages five and over; under-fives are welcome at the family-friendly performance on Saturday 9 January at 2pm.

After the run

English National Ballet stays at the Coliseum into the new year with Romeo & Juliet, from 14 to 24 January 2027.

More of London in December

Before or after the ballet, the rink at Somerset House is a short walk away, and Cirque Alice plays across the river at the Royal Festival Hall.

If a child under five is coming, the Saturday 9 January matinee at 2pm is the one to book: it is the only performance meant for them. The Coliseum is the largest theatre in the West End, so the cheapest seats at the top of the house are a long way from the stage; for a first Nutcracker, the stalls or the dress circle are worth the difference.
